Product variants in the range

Depending on the application scenario, we offer various classes of mobile HF | NFC devices:

  • Portable USB-C plug-in readers (e.g., HID OMNIKEY SE Plug) - for secure, password-free authentication using FIDO2 on the go with laptops, tablets, or convertible workstations.
  • Bluetooth Sled Readers (e.g., ACS ACR1555U Secure Bluetooth) - turn iOS and Android smartphones and tablets into full-featured NFC data capture devices; ideal for field service and mobile audit workflows.
  • Rugged Android handhelds with built-in NFC readers (e.g., Chainway C66, Chainway MC95) - pistol- or smartphone-style devices running Android 12/13, with an optional 1D/2D scanner, 4G/LTE, and Wi-Fi 6 for standard inventory, POS, and warehouse workflows.
  • Vehicle-mounted computer (e.g., Zebra VC8300) - designed for permanent installation on forklifts and warehouse vehicles, featuring a large touchscreen and keyboard, with an optional NFC module for driver login on the vehicle.

Choosing the Right HF/NFC Handheld Reader

Four criteria are particularly important when making a selection:

  1. Device category “companion reader” for an existing smartphone (plug-in or Bluetooth dongle) versus a standalone mobile computer running Android, with its own display, keyboard, and a battery life of typically 8–14 hours.
  2. Reading range and target media - typically 1–4 cm for cards, key fobs, and smartphone NFC; special mid-range configurations for laundry tags and library labels can reach up to 8–10 cm, depending on the model.
  3. Security and Applications - Simple UID reading for inventory and asset tracking versus FIDO2/AES-compatible readers for secure login, mobile access control, and PKI workflows.
  4. Durability - IP54–IP68 protection rating, drop resistance in accordance with MIL-STD-810G with drop tests from 1.2-1.8 m, operable while wearing gloves and on wet touchscreens; vehicle-mount computers also feature vibration resistance in accordance with IEC 60721-3-5.
For mobile access control at events, ticketing, and membership card verification, we recommend Bluetooth sleds or compact plug-in readers; for warehouses, field service, and field operations, we recommend standard Android handhelds with built-in NFC modules; and for permanently stationary forklift applications, we recommend vehicle-mount computers.
